Seasonal Winter Produce
Eating seasonal is extremely important. Not only is the food less expensive when in season, it is also fresher therefore better tasting. I try to use seasonal produce, herbs and proteins as much as possible, so I decided to make a list of seasonal winter foods to help as a guideline to the winter season grocery shopping. I hope this list is helpful as you ensure to incorporate seasonal foods into your diet.
Bressel Sprouts
Celery
Grapefruit
Kale
Lemon
Oranges ( navel oranges, blood oranges, clementines)
Persimmons (early winter)
Spinach
Butternut Squash
Sweet Potato
Pomegranates (early winter)
Cranberries
Cauliflower
Rosemary
Sage
Cabbage
Dates
Onion
Pears
Pineapple
Chestnuts
If you need ideas of how to incorporate these foods into your diet why not try out my Persimmon Swirl Smoothie, Banana Pear Smoothie,Roasted Butternut Squash Soup or my vegan Cranberry Walnut Cheesecake! Or you can make up your own creations using winter produce and share them with me, I'd love to know your favourite produce from this list and the ways you incorporate them into your diet.
