Spelt Flour Pizza Crust

Image

I know the picture isn't great quality but I really wanted to share my spelt flour pizza crust recipe. Spelt flour is full of fibre, protein and other nutritions so it is a great way to create a healthy version of pizza. I topped mine with tomato, green pepper, onion, spinach, chicken breast, a sprinkle of cheese and some basil!

What You'll Need:

2 cups spelt flour + approx. 1/2 cup for later

1 1/2 tsp. yeast

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. honey

3/4 cup luke warm water

rolling pin

1. Place yeast in a bowl, add 3/4 cup luke warm water ( if the water is too hot it will deactivate the yeast, thus your dough will not rise). Give it a good stir and let it sit for 5 minutes.

2. Next, add spelt flour, honey, and baking powder to yeast mixture, mix well with your hands. Cover the bowl with a tea towel  and allow to rise for 1-2 hours.

3. After an hour or so  place flour on your counter top and get ready to roll your dough. You will need about a half cup of spelt flour to ensure your dough doesn't stick to the counter or the rolling pin. I only used half the dough and froze the other half.

4. Preheat your oven to 400F and bake the crust for about 15 mins, before adding toppings then another 25-30 mins once your toppings are on.
