Food Fact: Unpasteurized raw honey vs. Pasteurized honey

Image

Since the season is changing and the weather is progressively getting cooler I have started to drink more hot drinks, specifically tea. In my tea I like to add a small bit of honey for sweetness and its health properties and that got me thinking, many people probably don't know the importance of purchasing a unpasteurized raw honey vs. a pasteurized honey. I use honey, a lot, it is probably my favourite sweetener to use in baking as well as cooking and is known to carry many health benefits, but only if your using the right kind. So I decided to do this little write up to compare both types of honey so people can grasp the differences.

Unpasteurized Raw Honey:

Anti-viral, anti- fungal, anti-bacterial, anticarcinogenic, cough suppressing, stabilizes blood sugar, rich in enzymes and vitamins, superior wound healing, decreases LDL cholesterol, rich in flavonoids, stabilizes blood sugar, boosts immunity, promotes digestive health, reduces ulcers, prevents cancer and heart disease.

Pasteurized Honey:

Cough suppressing, contains high fructose corn syrup, may contain aitubiotics, increase LDL cholesterol.

The main difference in these two types of honeys is that pasteurized honey is missing pollen, which is the key ingredient that contains all these positive properties. So when shopping for honey do your best to by a unpasteurized honey so you are getting all the health benefits it provides.
